Q. Is having the state min coverage a good idea and why should I carry more?
- Mary S - Denver
A. I never recommend the state minimum coverage, as your agent I would be doing you a
disservice. A severe to moderate car accident can easily cost $50,000+, depending on the number of cars involved and number of people injured. State minimum coverage would barley cover this example and the bill(s) above this amount would be up to you to cover - Yikes!
Q. What does 100/300 even mean?
- Bob L - Littleton
A. This type of liability limit is expressed in three numbers, such as 100/300/100. Using this example, the first number means that $100,000 would be paid for bodily injury to one person, $300,000 is the amount of bodily injury that would be paid to all persons per accident (2 or more persons), and $100,000 refers to the amount of all property damage that would be paid per accident. Liability limits can be offered as Split Limits or Single Limits, also known as Combined Single Limit.
Q. Who can I add to my policy?
- Jen R - Highlands Ranch
A. You can include members of your household on your policy, but you must all live at the same address.
Q. How can I get the best rate?
- Alex M - Boulder
A. Having a clean driving record, being a good student and having higher current insurance coverage can all help your overall premium. My job is to ensure that you receive all the discounts that you are eligible for. I can't make the rates or I'd win every sale and have a line out the door. But as an independent agent I can shop over 12 carriers to ensure you get the best deal.
Q. I had a hail claim on my roof and my current insurance tells me that they will only cover $5,800 of the $15,575 cost to replace the roof? I thought I only had to cover my deductible of $2,500? Now I have a bill for $9,775!?
- Nicole R - Colorado Springs
A. Sounds like your coverage is only for actual cash value (ACV) and not replacement cost value (RCV). With ACV they will deprecate your roof based on the age and then you will need to cover the rest of the cost minus your deductible. Hopefully your current agent explained this to you at the time you bought the policy, the devil is in the details. We offer RCV with our carriers, you pay the deductible at the time of a claim, makes it easier to budget for large expenditures like hail claims. This is one of our most competitive advantages vs other insurance companies!
